Don't Forget an American Depression Tradition: Free Slurpee Day 2010

Happy Free Slurpee Day America!

Every July 11th, since 1927 patriotic 7-Eleven stores across the country have celebrated the company's birthday by giving away free Slurpees.  This tradition has never been more important than during America's trying moments of economic turmoil, political angst and geo-political conflict.  This year the convenience store chain turns 83, and about 5 million icy beverages will be handed out at participating locations.

The company is touting this year's event as the "biggest Slurpee giveaway ever".   Earl Slurpee, IV, great-grandson of the chain's co-founder, extolled "it is as important as ever that 7-Eleven continues its proud tradition of helping out during times of economic strife.  It is my family's hope that our free Slurpee give-away will help ease the burden of America's unemployed and provide comfort to the children of The Affordable Mortgage Depression".

Details of the giveaway may be found at Slurpee.com.
